The Royal Loyals is a collaboration (or duet) between two artists – Monika Krol, a jeweler, and Danielle Murray, a painter. Eclectix first happened upon their work when we found the portrait (below), featured as the profile picture for the Eclectix interview with Judith Schaechter.
The idea behind this shared vision is wonderful and unique, an interesting way to present a dialogue between two artists. Together they create paintings and jewelry inspired by one common muse or mentor and the love of all things vintage. These have evolved into a series which comprises The Royal Loyals.
Beginning with the inspiration, Danielle will create a painting and Monika will design jewelry. There is an obvious back and forth between them – each series and indeed each piece, reflects the evolution and execution of the final end result. This approach enables each artist to create their own separate work, unlike other collaborations which involves both artists in producing one piece.
For example: the earrings (below) are worn by Judith in the portrait, are presented as a separate work and are inspired by Judith’s love of cats. She is also wearing a brooch and holding a necklace designed by Monika (not shown.) The paintings within the jewelry pieces are varnished oil on masonite.
Eclectix asked Danielle and Monika a few questions, they had this to share:
What was the spark for this idea?
