The Childhood’s End of Timothy Cummings

Timothy Cummings_Eclectix

Bowled over by a painting of Timothy Cummings (below) which we saw at the artMRKT  preview, we snooped around a bit and found lots more glorious art from him. Surreal, narrative and somewhat visionary – his works are colorful and iconic twists of fate. They’ve a strong impact and a beautifully dominating presence, when viewed in the flesh.

Timothy was raised in New Mexico and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1993. He renders exquisitely crafted portrait paintings which defy his lack of formal training. Elements of folk art influence from his New Mexico days float through his retablo-like images.  The subjects of his work are often children and adolescents struggling with issues of sexual identity, stereotypes and the conflicting nightmares of an adult world.
