Leilani Bustamante’s Ascension- her new solo show, opens at Modern Eden this weekend. Her flowing works are full of sensuous beauty, soulful stares and sacred ambiance. Leilani paintings are done in acrylic and (the-ever-under-estimated) gouache, on wood panels; using an often-muted palette with warm earth tones and gorgeous woodland browns. Elegantly composed and designed, her art can make serious statements or just emit emotional outpouring, wrapping you up within them. Featured here is a preview of some of the works in this exhibition.
Below is a strong and oh-so-true bit of prose, by Leilani about her inspirations for this body of work -
ASCENSION: Ever changing, not of body but of self. As beings we shroud ourselves with trivial needs of the physical - We must be accepted. We must be admired. We must be validated. We lock ourselves down by the weight of our own existence held under veils of self created conceit and imagined glory. Our vanity is well learned and far reaching.
Opening Reception: Saturday, December 15, 2012, 6-10 pm
Exhibition Dates: December 15 – January 6, 2012
