On Instagram last week, we spotted this new Mark Ryden painting.
She is titled Queen Bee and Mark commented that he had just finished her. Of course we had to share her immediately, with all you Ryden fans out there! She will be sold in a benefit auction for the World Wildlife Fund. We love her beehive and her pensive sadness – is she possibly mourning for the bees us humans have managed to kill off? Or maybe inspired by Brothers Grimm tale “The Queen Bee”… here. Of course, bees feature prominently in a many of Ryden’s works, they are loaded with symbolism and sacred meanings and Mark’s Porterhouse store logo is also a bee.
And that frame ain’t too shabby either. Heck, the frame alone could hang on our walls and we’d be happy. If we remember correctly, Mark designs his frames and then has them hand carved by some wonderful artisan in Thailand. He also shared two nice detail shots of Queen Bee, posted here, below.
