We were awestruck by the serene beauty and composition of the above piece and very gratified that we looked up more of Moki and her artworks. This graceful geisha rising out of the grassy hills seems like a spirit protector or goddess. That comb shadow reaching down her neck like a monster’s clawed hand is just perfection! Her recent works are a limited palette on wood but we were partial to her older, more colorful canvas works.
She paints serene and lush woodlands, some with anime-like monsters or unidentifiable critters from her imagination. The human element is often merged into various elements of nature, using the landscape as a surreal blanket or clothing.
Moki lives and works in Hamburg, where she studied at the Hamburg Academy of Arts. She also creates animation, comics, performance art, and toys and is active in international art collectives and the Street Art scene.
