About A Woman: Lilia Mazurkevich

Featured Artist: Lilia Mazurkevich

Born in Belarus in 1966, Lilia Mazurkevich studied at Kiev College of Arts and Design, Ukraine and later at City & Guilds Art School, London. She paints in a hyper-realist manner and the subject matter offers a glimpse into a surreal imagination, often incorporating sarcasm and humor.

We were especially taken with her “About A Woman” series – juxtaposed images of women with animals, in various funny and unexpected ways. Some selections are featured here.

‘In my art I am trying to depict the variety of character and appearance in people which amazes me. I am astonished how people act and express themselves in different circumstances and situations. Human nature is so deep; that is why it can never be defined, why it is so interesting and fragile. There is a strong connection between humor and sadness. Life is curious.’
