Photography: Jacob Sutton
We were entranced by the dreamy Underwater Girls series by photographer Jacob Sutton, photographs of a woman submerged, floating in a foggy velvet grayness. They are elegant, haunting and ethereal images with poetic beauty and surreal stillness. Currently there only three images in the series, but he has us waiting for more… especially loving that little pearl of a bubble suspended in front of her!
Born in 1979 in Bath England, in 1999 he moved to London where he completed a degree in photography at London College of Printing. Jacob also does work in the fashion and advertising worlds and has an ongoing series of videos.
How do you juggle your editorial, advertising and personal projects?
At first all I seemed to do was editorial, which was financially challenging. I do a good mix nowadays. I think people perceive advertising as boring to shoot, but besides the financial rewards, it’s a very good technical discipline to have, and brings you new problems and influences. I’ve started working with moving image a lot more [in] the past couple of years, too. – Via Ideastap.com
