Kirsty_Mitchell_Eclectix art

Kirsty Mitchell’s photography is an ethereal wonderland of lush fairy tales and historical fantastical dress set in beautiful woodlands – inspired by her memories of her mother reading aloud to her. She worked with Alexander McQueen’s studio and finished her costume studies at the London College of Fashion.

After her mother’s death, Kirsty immersed herself in photography to deal with the trauma of grief. Starting with everyday shots taken on the street or subway, her creations morphed into large detailed imaginative tableaus taken from her dreams. Involving much more than just clicking a shutter button, she hand made and painted everything - from the costumes to the sets. In the woodlands around her home, she constructed elaborate scenes akin to a miniature movie set, complete with lighting, assistants and models.

Foto Fix: Myoung Ho Lee

Myoung Ho Lee photographs solitary trees framed against white canvas backdrops in the middle of natural landscapes. Like stage settings in nature  - they beautifully isolate and highlight the shape of the tree. To install the large canvases, which span approximately 60 by 45 feet, the artist enlists a production crew and heavy cranes.

Art On The Web

It’s not often that I go to a Tumblr site and just can’t pull away. However, the well curated site - The Villa of Ormen - did just that, pulled me in for an extended darkly fantastic voyage. If you like otherworldly, surreal, mysterious imagery with haunted overtones, this is the bomb. Bits of words of wisdom, philosophical quotes and symbolism also sprinkle this site, in between the stunningly gorgeous images.

Eclectix art

Featured Artist: Mohau Modisakeng

South African Mohau Modisakeng wears many artistic hats – working in sculpture, video, street art, installations, performance and photography. Our favorites are his more surreal and emotive works – where the subject’s face is obscured, some by mask-like objects and others by beautiful dusty clouds.  Partially fragmented by smoke or chalk they imply a spiritual presence, ambiguity of existence and/or the disintegration of matter.
