Featured Artist: Dan Hillier
Dan works in mixed media using collage, Photoshop and his own pen and ink drawings – producing screen prints of the final image. He takes much of his inspiration from old Gothic Victorian etchings. The ink paintings are done “using lots of water, lots of Daler-Rowney Calli ink and lots of delicate scratching with a dip nib pen.”
Here on Eclectix we don’t usually write long examinations of artists and their work, preferring to let the art speak for itself, the image to be interpreted by the individual viewer… However, with the passing of David Bowie – an art movement has come to a close and the ramifications of his life compelled us to go further into this artist. He was like no other.

The Art of Bjork, Selected Images
With the release of Bjork’s newest album Vulnicura, comes another dramatically flamboyant image of the muse herself, adding to the plethora of art surrounding her. Everyone’s favorite little eclectic elf, with her imaginative sounds and inventive visual explosions has quite a portfolio of eclectic personas. We thought a compilation of our favorite images would be a feast of eye candy for us, as well as a rewarding homage to the punky diva herself.
R.I.P. – The Death of H R Giger
H. R. Giger ( Hans Rudolf “Ruedi” Giger ) the infamous godfather of so much of today’s contemporary art and graphic styles, died Monday from injuries sustained in a fall. Sad news for so many artists and others who had their imaginations blown open by his truly original works. He single-handedly brought dark surrealist imagery into the foreground through his creatures and designs.
Coming up in San Francisco is a great themed exhibition titled Like A Tom Waits Song. The imagery conjured up in my head by this unique title is delicious – shabby vintage cafes, solitary figures leaning under streetlights, bars full of whisky and cigarettes, faded sepia circus scenes and on and on…. Curated by Andrea Schwarz, the show is all artwork inspired by Tom Waits and his music. So if you are a fan of all things Tom Waits, this is a must see art show, lickety-split.
