Artitechture = Art & Architecture
For all you Giger fanatics out there (and we know there are a lot of you…), a visit and drink at one of the Alen Bars by artist H.R. Giger is definitely on your travel menu. There are two Alien Bars – one in in Gruyères, Switzerland and one in Chur, Switzerland. And we can’t imagine that a more artful surreal place to have a cocktail exists on the planet.
Featured Artist : Brin Levinson
Hailing from Portland, Oregon, artist Brin Levinson depicts muted haunted cityscapes and landscapes completely void of humanity. Other lifeforms and animals remain behind, sole survivors whose dominion is now the streets where people once walked.
Exhibit Preview: Brian Mashburn, Contenders
Coming up in Los Angeles this weekend is a solo exhibit by Brian Mashburn, titled Contenders. His beautiful landscapes feature deserted cities, wildly majestic tangled trees, and usually one other lonely life form perusing a damaged misty environment.
Artitechture: Water Tower Art Exhibit
There is a great show which opened last Friday, of 50 illustrated water towers at Kikkerland in NYC. If you love models, little houses, run down shacks and weird little structures as much as we do, this is a must see! Composed of small models of water towers, they are each adorned in their own way by individual artists. The show is curated by artists Chris Buzelli (above) and SooJin Buzelli for Boundless Brooklyn, who donated and sells the model kits.
Photography: Jessica Ledwich
Melbourne photographer Jessica Ledwich previously worked as a fashion photographer, but she found it constraining and now she concentrates on visual fine art. In Ledwich’s series - The Monstrous Feminine, she confronts the extremes women will go to in the pursuit of beauty. Inspired by a Julia Kristeva essay that looked at the role of women as portrayed in horror films, it got her thinking about the monstrous things women do to themselves. Her works are starkly dramatic and powerful, pulling no punches – she gets in our face with the absurd realities of “beauty” rituals.
Design: Anila Quayyum Agha
Anila Quayyum Agha’s light installation – “Intersections”, is an overwhelmingly stunning, inspired art installation. Using a single lightbulb, the lamp projects through laser-cut wood panels, designed by Anila – graceful, peaceful and mesmerizing patterns.
