Featured Artist: Avery Palmer
Avery Palmer is a true multi media artist – creating ceramics, paintings and drawings of complementary and serious beauty. His subjects are imbued with an antiquated warm color palette and like vintage shape shifters, they pose in surreal compositions, often in side-show like structures.
Featured Artist: Bill Abright
Bill Abright is a local San Franciscan artist whose drawings and sculptures cross over into each other with a fantastic morph. Masks, his flat graphites are a wonderful translation of 3D on paper. And his 3D ceramic mask sculptures are fabulous – full of applied wood grain, dripping paints, and Bacon inspired emotive distortions.
While poking around the FM Gallery and their studios, we found the lovely sculpted souls of Joe Kowalczyk (Ko-väl-chick). Joe is a local artist who also co-founded FM Gallery in Oakland. Besides his beautiful ceramic sculpts, Joe has a really nice series of flowing tree drawings on his site.
Christopher David White’s gnarly hand is a fantastic sculpture from his series, titled Cycle of Decay. Despite the negative connotations of decay, his works help us realize the beauty and rebirth inherent in the cycles of life.
