giger bar - Eclectix artitecture

Artitechture = Art & Architecture

For all you Giger fanatics out there (and we know there are a lot of you…), a visit and drink at one of the Alen Bars by artist H.R. Giger is definitely on your travel menu. There are two Alien Bars – one in in Gruyères, Switzerland and one in Chur, Switzerland. And we can’t imagine that a  more artful surreal place to have a cocktail exists on the planet.

A Fairytale Come True – The Admont Abbey Library

Not Just Architecture, But Artitechture

The Admont Abbey Library in Austria, designed by the architect Joseph Hueber, is the oldest monastic library in the world. While the abbey itself was completed in 1074, the library (late Baroque) was not completed until 1776. At 70 metres long, it is also the largest in the world and features flamboyant ceiling frescoes, wooden sculptures and gold busts.

Soviet Bus Stops by Christopher Herwig

Book Nook: Bus Stop Art - The art and architecture of bus stops in the Soviet Union.

Christopher Herwig first discovered the unusual architecture of Soviet-era bus stops during a 2002 long-distance bike ride from London to St. Petersburg. Challenging himself to take one good photograph every hour, Herwig began to notice surprisingly designed bus stops on otherwise deserted stretches of road. Twelve years later, Herwig had covered more than 18,000 miles in 14 countries of the former Soviet Union, traveling by car, bike, bus and taxi to hunt down and document these bus stops.

Water Tower Art Exhibit

Artitechture: Water Tower Art Exhibit

There is a great show which opened last Friday, of 50 illustrated water towers at Kikkerland in NYC. If you love models, little houses, run down shacks and weird little structures as much as we do, this is a must see! Composed of small models of water towers, they are each adorned in their own way by individual artists. The show is curated by artists Chris Buzelli (above) and SooJin Buzelli for Boundless Brooklyn, who donated and sells the model kits.
