There is a lot ( and we mean a lot! ) of excellent digital or PhotoShop-based works out there – but we opted for the real deal – as in: paint, brushes, pencils or fingers …
Cate Rangel (top) A self-taught artist from Los Angeles, painter Cate Rangel creates work that is full of personal meaning. With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, she easily transfers her own emotions into her feminine subjects. They are not images of her physical self, but psychological mirrors that are a mix of boldness and fragility, and highlight the power and beauty of the female figure. – Via Cate Rangel

I like to think of myself as a bit of an eclectic artist. My day job gives me the luxury of not having to paint for the wider audience of consumers so I can try different subjects, styles, mediums etc. Depending on my mood at the time I alternate between portraiture, the human figure, still life and Australian landscapes. Sprinkled here and there are some frivolous works like “Over Imbibed” or “Minstrels by Moonlight”.

David MacDowell is a self-taught artist living in Virginia. He incorporates media culture, and social themes into brilliant and controversial satirical paintings. Working primarily with acrylics on canvas, David is not afraid of tapping into the dark side of American media worship. He tops off celebrity renderings sprinkled with crying babies, candy colored nightmares, and a hilariously acidic sense of humor. Some have called his work a virtual “Disneyland on acid”.

Drew is an award-winning illustrator whose work regularly appears in dozens of major publications. For years he was renowned for his “stippling” style of caricature, employing thousands of pen-marks to achieve photographic verisimilitude, but in recent years Friedman has switched to painting.
Audrey (Twin Peaks) – Stella Im Hultberg
Stella Im Hultberg
Stella’s portraits of women are rendered in easy, flowing lines with soft hues that transcend the typical critiques of feminine beauty, inherent in today’s self conscious society. Hultberg originally studied Industrial Design at CSU, which naturally segued into work as a toy designer early on in her career. Work in the design industry serendipitously led to her building on her natural talents as an artist and a career as a self-taught painter soon followed. – Via Thinkspace
